Know Nouveau? The 2024 Beaujolais Nouveau is Here:
The Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge, the bulk of the production at Domaine de Marcoux, is sourced from 13 sites spread over a wide range of terroirs. This allows for a wine that is both dense but pure and lifted with beguiling aromatics. In general terms Marcoux is always inclined towards red-fruit flavors with a smoky stoniness that emerges with age.
Domaine de Marcoux was a pioneer in organic and biodynamic farming long before it was fashionable which is now overseen by Catherine with assistance from Sophie’s son Vincent.
The varietal proportions vary from year to year, but are generally: 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 7% Syrah and 3% Cinsault.
The grapes are picked by hand. They are first sorted at the vine. Once in the cellar, the crop passes onto the sorting table; then is destemmed, crushed and cooled. No yeast is added; we only work with native yeasts. Maceration lasts 4-5 weeks. The wine is matured for about 18 months, chiefly in concrete vats and several foudres or 350-litre barrels.
Wine Advocate Review:
The 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape—80% Grenache, with small amounts of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault—features complex aromas of crushed stone, garrigue, licorice and ripe cherries. It's full-bodied but also lively and zesty, firm across the mid-palate, then softly dusty on the lingering finish. Anticipated Maturity: 2024-2035
