The La Rioja Alta Vina Alberdi Reserva Rioja appears a bright, deep ruby color with dark cherry hues on the rim of the glass. It stands out for its intensity, with red fruit aromas (strawberries, raspberries, redcurrant and cherry) leading to elegant notes of vanilla, toffee, coffee cream, cinnamon, brioche and hazelnuts. The balance between acidity and alcohol stands out on the palate, with soft, sweet, rounded tannins and a pleasant final sensation.
The wine stands out for its great culinary versatility. It is an excellent choice with appetizers, snacks, light meals and barbecues, as well as with rice dishes, pasta, creams and also with lightly grilled meat and fish.
100% Tempranillo from our Mayorita, El Bardal and El Rebollar vineyards in Rodezno, and Alto del Rey in Labastida. These sites lie at 500-600 metres above sea level and the vines were planted on claylimestone soils more than 40 years ago.
Wine Advocate Review:
The younger wine here is the 2020 Viña Alberdi, a versatile version of the Haro reds. It was produced with Tempranillo fermented in stainless steel and matured in American oak barrels for two years (it's sold as Reserva in international markets and Crianza in Spain). It has 14% alcohol with a pH of 3.6 and five grams of acidity. It has a classical nose of ripe fruit, American oak and spices, the subtle notes of forest floor, still young. The palate is velvety and very balanced with polished tannins. Approachable but should also age. 650,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2023. Anticipated Maturity: 2024-2029
