Mastic, widely known since ancient times for its beneficial and therapeutic properties, is an aromatic resin offered to us by the mastic tree (Pistacia Lentiscus var. Chia, Anacardaceae family), a shrub flourishing in Southern Chios. Mastic has constituted - and still does - the emblem of the island of Chios, and a large part of the island's growth is attributed to the blessed teardrop of the mastic tree.
One of the greatest products of the mastic is the “Liqueur Mastiha of Chios”, which is produced traditionally in Chios Island since 1925 from the K. Psychis & Sons distillery and it is a product of distillation of the original Chios mastic. Especially after it has been enshrined in the community legislation, our traditional Liqueur has great potential of success in the international market. The founder of Psychis distillery realized very early the importance of Chios mastic. Therefore, one of the first spirits he had produced was the Mastiha Ouzo by distilling at the same time anise and natural mastic. Later on, inspired by the demand and the customers he experimented in producing the Mastiha Liqueur by distilling the mastic crystals into natural mastic spirit and so he created the Premium Liqueur Mastiha Chios Psychis, an authentic designation of origin.
