The Dom Pérignon Jean-Michel Basquiat Edition 2015 fuses iconic Champagne with bold artistry. This vintage sparkles with bright citrus, stone fruit, and delicate floral notes, balanced by a rich, creamy texture. The Basquiat collaboration brings a touch of contemporary flair to the timeless elegance of Dom Pérignon. A truly collectible masterpiece for both art and Champagne enthusiasts.
For this tribute to Jean-Michel Basquiat, Dom Pérignon chose a work by the artist that is as meaningful as it is enigmatic, "In Italian" (1983). Although the meaning of the work "In Italian" remains a mystery, it carries an emotional intensity that is not unrelated to the resonance between Basquiat’s vision and that of Dom Pérignon. Indeed, in Basquiat’s work, as in Dom Pérignon’s vision, the assemblage is a key element for the intensity of the aesthetic experience.
For the painting "In Italian", the assemblage of materials and the successive pictorial interventions that hide each other until what was originally painted becomes indecipherable, opens the way to potentially infinite layers of meaning and multiple emotional configurations for the observer. As for Dom Pérignon, the tension between the different characteristics of the original wines creates an extraordinarily rich alliance of meanings, without ever erasing the trace of the original matter.
This art of assemblage is reflected in the special edition, with three unique coffrets, each showcasing parts of Basquiat's masterpiece as a tribute to this creative process.
Wine Advocate Review:
Disgorged in January 2023, the 2015 Dom Pérignon shows a singular, ethereal profile with aromas of white pepper, iodine, ripe orchard fruits, toast, smoke, herbs and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered, and structured, it’s enveloping and round with a delicate phenolic mid-palate that underlines chalky dry extracts, concluding with a sapid, penetrating finish with gastronomic bitterness. This iteration of Dom Pérignon, though replete with the customary charm and vinous generosity that typify the label, distinguishes itself by its structural delicate austerity and a notably phenolic profile, giving rise to a remarkably linear and well-defined style that diverges markedly from the more familiar expressions of Dom Pérignon. This is a blend of 51% Pinot Noir and 49% Chardonnay with a dosage of 4.5 grams per liter; it will age wonderfully and can be enjoyed now or over the next 20 years. Drink 2024-2054
