The nose is fruity with lovely notes of dark berries and wild fruit. The palate is smooth, fruity and balanced with notes of blackcurrant, dark berries, and hints of cardamom and tonka beans.
The little brother of Péby Faugères and Faugères, Château Cap de Faugères, with 20 hectares of vines, is located in the pretty commune of Sainte Colombe, in the Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. It benefits from superb clay-limestone slopes that are an extension of the terroir in St.-Émilion, worked by the same team with the same rigour and passion. The terroir is expressed in each vintage, offering wines that can be enjoyed at a relatively early age.
85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 12 to 14 months, 60% in second-fill barrels, 40% in third-fill barrels, no fining
Wine Advocate Review:
Opaque purple-black colored, the 2019 Cap de Faugères delivers intense scents of prunes, Black Forest cake and ripe, fresh blackberries with hints of Marmite toast, tapenade, damp soil and truffles. The full-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating black fruit preserves with a velvety texture and tons of freshness, finishing long and earthy.
