The Cline Cellars Ancient Vines Zinfandel appears a deep red-purple color in the glass. The nose opens with aromas of strawberry, cherry, elderberry, dried rose petals, vanilla, cloves and caramel followed by a palate filled with raspberry, cherry, strawberry, orange zest, cedar, mocha and vanilla. Medium, balanced acidity and smooth, plush tannins lead to a rich, long and mouth-watering finish.

The 2022 Ancient Vines Zinfandel draws primarily from a wide selection of our oldest, most historic and shyest-bearing Zinfandel blocks in Contra Costa County. Growing on the sandy banks of the San Joaquin and Sacramento Rivers delta, some of these vines are well over 100 years old. Planted in sand-soils they have persisted through phylloxera and prohibition. These ancient, dry-farmed vineyards consistently produce fruit of stunning concentration. 

Lots were harvested separately according to the ripeness and balance of acidity. After fermentation the wines were pressed off their skins at dryness and racked gently before being laid down on a mixture of French oaks for 16 months before blending and bottling. 

This wine is rich, juicy, with aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, cinnamon, potpourri, dried herbs, and vanilla cream on the nose. The flavors on the palate are ripe strawberry-raspberry jam, maple, clove, black peppercorn, and a mouth watering finish.
