This Valckenberg Gewurztraminer is a full-bodied, off-dry white with a lovely aroma of roses, followed by flavors of ripe peaches and litchi on the palate. The finish offers signature 'gewurz' notes of nutmeg, cinnamon and clove.
In contrast to 2013’s very late arrival, bud break was more than two weeks earlier than average in 2014. Spring was temperate, with flowering beginning as usual in early June. A hot, dry streak at the start of summer brought about a rapid and prolific development of the vines, with vegetation being three weeks ahead of schedule by the end of July. Not enough rain meant young vines needed irrigation. Luckily, the Pfalz area did not get the spring frost or heavy summer rains other key wine regions experienced. There was still a lot of work to do in the vineyards, however, to ensure even ripening. Harvest was complete by early October, and the yield was strong, with healthy grapes being brought in. The wines show a lot of expressive fruit notes in this vintage, with balanced acidity and moderate alcohol. Average must weights were in the QbA to Spatlese range
