Gouveio, Rabigato, Viosinho and Moscatel Galego from exclusively Class A parcels (Pousado, Vale de Moinhos, Serra de Cotas) totaling 3.5 hectares on poor schist soils. The fruit is hand-harvested, partly destemmed and fermented in lagar and tank with indigenous yeasts and some skin contact; fermentation is stopped with 77-degree grape brandy. The wine is aged in a combination of very old tonel or balseiro (tall wooden tanks from 3,000-60,000 liters with thick staves that slow down oxidation) and the classic Port pipa (550-liter horizontal casks with thinner staves that promote oxidation). It finishes at a modest 19.5% alcohol and 30g/liter RS, rendering it legally dry or seco. Average age in bottle is 3-4 years.
Wine Advocate Review:
The NV Porto Dry White is an unusual "dry" white Port, with "only" 30 grams of residual sugar produced with Gouveio, Rabigato, Viosinho and Moscatel Galego—all estate grapes (with Port, they only use their own grapes, whether or not they put "Quinta" on the label). It's a blend of different vintages, a kind of solera in a 6,000-liter oak cask and 20 pipas that they bottle and replenish. It's a darker shade of white, more oxidative and with notes of decayed yellow flowers and herbs, very tasty, fleshy and round, with integrated sweetness and good freshness, with 19.5% alcohol and a long, tasty finish. It's a lot that was bottled in 2024, but it's not easy to see the lot number, which finishes with "241." Anticipated Maturity: 2025-2031
