Deep garnet color, nose with notes of raspberry, black pepper and undergrowth. The palate is full, complex with aromas of black cherry, plumb, garigue and herbs with a light woody touch in the finish.
A blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah. Vinification in traditional wooden vats. 5 weeks maceration on the Syrah. 3 to 4 weeks on the Grenache. Aged 12 months in oak barrels for 25% of Syrah. Tank aging for the rest of Syrah and Grenache.
Languedoc is one of the most exciting regions in France right now. Château Puech-Haut is a prestigious estate in the eastern Languedoc producing top quality wines for very reasonable prices. The wines from Puech-Haut are rich and lush but also show the earthy and mineral character of the rocky clay-limestone soils of the region. They benefit from both its proximity to the Mediterranean and the rugged, mountainous interior.
James Suckling Review:
A fruity, juicy, velvety and charming red with notes of cherries, raspberries, cassis and olives. Medium body, fine tannins and a straightforward development on the palate. Fruity and agreeable. Drink now.
