Piece by piece, Dave put together the famous Abstract collage over the course of four weeks after years of ripping out images from magazines . Each image on their own conveys a special story , yet together, they express Dave’s own story. Similarly, the wine is a collage of hundreds of wine lots, each tasted, trial blended and tasted again to determine the final iteration; each lot tells its own story, but blended together, they become part of the Abstract saga.
The 2022 Abstract pours a dark purple core with a neon, ruby rim. The nose is quintes sential Abstract but with a broodier twist—notes of ripe black plum, cacao, black pepper, cedar, dried porcini, forest floor musk and sweet oak. The entry is coating and flooding with hints of blueberry preserves, tarragon, balsamic glaze and anise. Bright and lifting thr ough the palate, the finish offers an umami note akin to eggplant yakitori.
Wine Advocate Review:
A Grenache-based blend, the 2022 Proprietary Red Abstract is nicely complex, even if it's very fruit forward. Grapey, blueberry-like notes add modest hints of anise and peppery spice in this full-bodied wine. It's gently velvety in texture and broad in the mouth, but it lacks a bit of depth.
