Product Details
From an organic estate with vineyards dotted across the southern Rhone, this has unmistakable warm, red-fruited generosity from the grenache and fine, peppery freshness from the syrah. Round but not at all burly, this is easy-drinking and soft in the best possible way.
La Ligière is an estate with 60 ha of vineyards divided between Côtes-du-Rhône, Beaume de Venise, Vacqueyras, and a little Gigondas. The fruit went to the local co-operative until 2008 when Phillippe Bernard and his wife Elizabeth decided to start producing domaine wine. The estate comprises grenache, syrah and mourvedre of an average 50 years of age, and cultivation has always eschewed any chemical or synthetic treatments. La Ligière is certified organic and is moving steadily towards biodynamics. The harvest is manual, no yeasts are added, and the wines are bottled without fining or filtration.
