The Dalmore 18 Year is an evolution of The Dalmore house style that harnesses bolder notes.
The spirit is initially matured in American white oak ex-Bourbon casks, yielding soft vanilla and honey notes. For its final maturation, the whisky is transferred into casks which have held 30-Year Old Matusalem Oloroso Sherry. These casks are exclusively provided to The Dalmore from the renowned Gonzalez Byass bodega and give the whisky its rich, deep chocolate character.
Whisky Advocate Review:
This year’s edition rises from the glass with dried apricots and baked apples, underscored by hot chocolate, caramel, and a sweet bready aroma. The palate introduces high-cacao dark chocolate flaked with sea salt, dried leather, and honey-like sweetness. The fruit remains, though it’s more stewed than dried. Oak and leather guide the whisky into its long finish, with hints of spice and citrus fading slowly.
