A deep ruby color, almost opaque. An intense, really complex aroma, with notes of black and red fruits, pepper, resin and pine needles, with attractive, well-integrated oak. It has good body and acidity, high quality tannins, black fruit flavours, a hint of cocoa and a long, elegant finish.
Callabriga is a Douro red in the modern style, intense and elegant, versatile and vibrant. It is one of the most innovative wines made by Casa Ferreirinha. Casa Ferreirinha has been making top-quality unfortified wine in the Douro longer than anyone else.
45% Touriga Franca, 38% Touriga Nacional and 17% Tinta Roriz.
Since 1751, the Ferreira name has been synonymous with high-quality Portuguese wines. The first Portuguese owned Port house, its history is intertwined with the the evolution of the Douro Region and its wines.
The story of Ferreira is inextricably associated with one extraordinary woman. Daughter of one of the company’s founders, Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira was born in the country town of Régua, gateway to the wines of the Douro Valley, in 1811. Though small in stature and reserved by nature, Dona Antónia was charismatic, visionary and entrepreneurial. She created new expanses of terraced vineyards and improved the hard lives of local farming families. The local people’s affectionatley called her ‘A Ferreirinha’ – ‘the little Ferreira’. When ‘The Ferreirinha’ died in 1896, she left behind a portfolio of great Douro estates and an immensely successful business.
Wine Spectator Review:
This is sleek and well-knit, marrying sculpted tannins and a minerally underpinning of iron and smoke notes with flavors of blackberry paste, warm fig, green olive and rooibos tea. Tightly meshed through the racy finish. Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz. Best from 2027 through 2035. 9,139 cases made, 500 cases imported.
