The CVNE Vina Real Reserva Rioja appears deep ruby red in color, clean and bright. The nose is intense with aromas of ripe red fruits combined with nuances of toffee, spices and smoke from the barrel. The palate is well structured and shows notes similar to those on the nose, with complex traces of beautifully ripe fruit and oak. The finish is long and further demonstrates the wine’s capacity to continue to evolve in the bottle for many years to come.
Perfect for pairing with red meats and oily fish.
90% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha, Mazuelo y Graciano. Viña Real Reserva is made mainly from grapes from Rioja Alavesa vineyards.
The wine is aged in new single-use French and American oak barrels for an average of 22 months, with manual racking taking place every 4 months in the first year. Once bottled, the wine is aged in the Viña Real cellars for a minimum of one and a half years to develop a rounded and complex flavor before being released onto the market.
Wine Advocate Review:
The 2017 Viña Real Reserva displays more advanced characteristics than the 2018 I tasted next to it. It has notes of forest floor intermixed with hints of fruit, berries in liqueur and some spices. 2017 was a very challenging year, and the wine is evolving at a faster pace. It's 13.9% alcohol and has a pH of 3.54, coming through as polished and ready to drink now. It's mostly Tempranillo with 10% other grapes—Graciano, Garnacha and Mazuelo. It matured in barrel for 18 months. 174,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2020. Anticipated Maturity: 2022-2025
